Envelope interiors are to be kept, I keep all the papers too and now I don't have enough space for more. But 2025 is the year when I will do more collage hopefully 🤞
I’m too scared to see the film, but your piece is so creative!! Do you have your papers and saved scraps organized somehow or are they in random heaps? 😆 I used to keep everything but I’ve moved a lot and it became too cumbersome to lug around. 😬
Thank you!!! I set out thinking "this is going to be such a serious, moody piece" and then I added that rat with eyes and it all went out the window, lolol. That rat is too self aware.
If you wanted to listen to a podcast called "too scary didn't watch" they'll walk you through it and you get some behind the scenes info too!
It was inspiring to see your process and use of hoarded paper! I'm a paper hoarder too! I have paper that my husband gave me 16 years ago when we started dating 😆 And I save security envelopes too, as well as receipts from the countries I've traveled to (among many other things)!
Thank you! Oh receipts and papers from travel is such a good idea! I have a few things in a different drawer from travels and now I think I want to move them to my paper collage stash!
I love that you have kept papers from travels too! Just a word of warning, some receipts do lose their ink after a few years (thinking of some of mine from 2015 that I found recently 😆) so don't wait on all of those!
Every part of this is a delight, including the extremely Leo Lionni handmade paper, collective rat noun, and the definition of cinnamon broom (which to me sort of defy definition/purpose).
I love every bit of this post! Also a collector, hoarder, saver, preparer person when it comes to materials, so I get it. It’s so thrilling to be able to say, “Oh! I have that. I’ve saved it for ten years for just this moment!” haha. Also: I adore this piece of yours. Really captures the mood from the film, too.
Thank you!!! Yes it's such a FLEX to have saved the exact thing you need! Ah every scene was so beautiful! I almost went with the scene in the forest when the carriage is quickly, but silently approaching.
So incredible, Kayla! I’m just finishing a book partly made of cut up paper and I didn’t have ENOUGH stashed paper so ended up making endless textures on my own. So yes to keeping all the paper haha.
It’s really such a fantastic piece, the mood! - so in love with the dimension you get from cut paper! PB has gone quite well, very happy - having some beautiful patterns from envelopes would have been lovely - must keep an eye out for those. I ended up using a lot of rice papers and painting/printing on them. Such a lengthy process but worth the time.
Fellow paper hoarder (have collected 20 years of security envelopes, always get excited when I find a new pattern!) reporting for duty 🤣 gotta love a piece of art that smells good, too! Your rats are adorable and this is a fantastic use of scraps.
I confess as a paper hoarder...also a daily note/list maker so the plain scraps go to that use.
junk mail envelopes I haven't used for art yet but I use them to save garden seeds. Have started making mini collages to pin on a vision board in my office as a low stakes way to use fun paper scraps. I work in a print shop and anytime I trim bleeds off a piece and the "junk" paper is more than a couple inches wide I save it....for what, I do not yet know hahaha.
Somewhere in my basement is a box of hundreds (thousands?) of childhood stickers I never stuck on anything because that's just the kind of kid I was 😂. Maybe they'll have their glory day at some point.
What a fun piece! You're inspiring me to do more collage...

Those interiors were just hiding in plain sight all this time! A secret treasure!
And I hope you do collage this year!
Thank you!

Thank you!!!! Ha, I used to be waaaay too scared to watch horror movies, but then something happened and I got curious.
Nope, I just have all of my scraps in a bag. haha I do try to keep like things together, (envelopes, cards, palettes, etc.)
This is incredible and I absolutely love the final piece
THANK YOU!!! I totally wasn't expecting to make it and surprised myself ha
Ooo your final piece gave me the chills! I am too chicken to see the movie but I did love watching your process unfold!

Another fellow hoarder here. Love seeing how this came together.
Thank you!!! I knew there were more of us out there! :)

😂😂😂 THANK YOU!
I think the cinnamon brooms put a spell on shoppers. I'll throw one in the cart but when I'm home with it, I'm thinking..."what am I actually doing?"

Ahhhh that sounds like a nightmare!! 😅 And to have to try and replicate it!!!? How did it go?

Thank you! Yes, the shadows and edges in collage, I think of it as such a low effort/high impact effect!
Oooooh I bet the rice paper layers beautifully too! 😍 You've been killing it! I feel like every time I see another book from you it levels up!

Thank yoooooouuuuu! Big fan of rats over here! haha
When I realized the security envelopes had those patterns...it was over...they have me in a chokehold now. haha
I love the rats on your piece!
